AltraBio Approach

While high throughput techniques have opened new possibilites in drug discovery and development, several issues prevent these techniques from reaching their full potential. One of the crucial obstacles is the heterogeneity of populations, pathologies, tissues and cell types. AltraBio addresses these limitations and data complexity by designing and developing innovative methods and proprietary tools.

It is estimated that up to a third of high throughput experimental designs are eventually abandoned due to the difficulty analyzing the data and obtaining the answers to the questions the experiment was designed to address. The key feature of AltraBio's approach is applying the full body of biomedical knowledge at the earlier stage of statistical analysis rather than starting with the late stage of gene list interpretation. This maximizes the yield of information about the impact of the clinical condition on pre-defined biological pathways and networks.
AltraBio has constructed a knowledge base of biological concepts, built by systematic mining of public genomic and gene expression data and biomedical literature. This collection informs the critical upstream step of high throughput data analysis (the “knowledge-early” approach). Performed in parallel with a "clasical" gene-based analysis, this approach identifies biological concepts that are differentially impacted as a result of various phenotypic, experimental or study conditions, and helps to focus and maximize the yield of the analyst's work at the interpretation stage.
